camouflage

i'm sitting alone in my room on the floor with the lights off, the door shut but there's still not enough darkness. the laptop burns into my freshly sunburnt face and dares me to turn down the intensity of the glare, but i won't give in. i'm too stubborn.

that's the problem with me, i'm stubborn, obstinate, inflexible, wilful, mulish, bolshie, obdurate, intractable and i have pride. too much pride to lower myself to be anything less than the person i aspire to be. i have no problem admitting to my flaws, the ones mentioned above are just a few that makes up the vast catalogue of kitty, yet i know that these are qualities that will lead to my destruction.

it's halloween which means masks and masquerading - i love that word. i remember writing it down in one of my english exams in the summer and then spending about five minutes worrying at the end during the checking that i'd spelled it wrong. spelling was never one of my strong points. however, people masquerade all the time, they'll be all sweet and smiley to your face and then as soon as you leave the room you know the claws come out and the cattiness begins. so if its an almost everyday occurrence, it seems to be at my school, whats the point of trying to pretend your'e something that you're not when people do it everyday of the year?

please, excuse my melodramatic, erratic writing of today. i'm running on four hours of aeroplane sleep and not much else. i'm going to listen to keane now, and wonder what the fuck to do with everything.

i do mind, for now onwards at least.

tea time

at the moment i'm sitting in a tea lounge and everything is quiet except for the torrential tropical rain outside - there's no windows so if i stick my right arm out far enough then it'll be soaked through in around ten seconds. my mum has just returned from the shop with some more nutmegs, a little grater, a bracelet and a new lighter, fascinating stuff.

today is the day of the wedding so it's a real shame it's pouring down - especially as it's going to be on the beach! hopefully the rain will blow over in a couple of hours, at the moment its ten past twelve and the wedding starts at four, so, fingers crossed everything will be fine.

yesterday was wicked, we went round most of the island in the morning including the rain forest with a crater lake and monkeys, a waterfall and a nutmeg processing plant, awesome. we had to rush through lunch to be on the dive boat at two where we headed out for two locations to snorkel and scuba. the first was amazing and i was surrounded twice by shoals of tropical fish. the second was an underwater sculpture park which was good but the figures were at times really creepy!

home tomorrow, in all honesty i'm missing it.

capital punishment

Sadly another day in paradise has gone which means i’m a day closer to going back to school. I’m about three quarters of the way through ‘a thousand splendid suns’ by the guy who wrote the kite runner. I haven’t read the kite runner and really didn’t think that this book would be my cup of tea. In all honesty it isn’t at all... but for some reason i find myself continuing to read it without giving up. Not many writers have that kind of writing ability.

I’m not sure how i’m going to spend tomorrow yet, but i can assure you it’s safe to say that sideshow bob hair will remain and that my tan is coming along nicely. The fish here is truly amazing. I think it was yesterday that for the first time i experience true Caribbean style cooking – grilled marlin with some form of coconut curry sauce, it sounds absolutely rank but it came exceedingly close to thai green curry on the level of taste, a truly astonishing feat.

I’m knackered, writing up geography coursework is an especially apathetic yet simultaneously exhausting afternoon activity opposed to laying on the beach. Ah well, it needs to be done.

See you on the other side.

Fact # 27

I hate having to write this in word first, it means that it creates capital letters.

the curious incident of the snorkel and the ankle...

Right so if i were on the internet i’d be typing this straight onto kittylikescake, however i am not because although i have the option of connection to an unsecure network the router isn’t responding, so i thought i’d type this into word and then later copy and paste it – moment of genius eh?

Grenada is hot, humid and bloody amazing. Today i woke up really early due to going bed pretty late because of the difference in time and we explored a little before having an awesome fruit filled breakfast. I spent my morning topping up the tan (or in this case burn.......) by sitting in the shallows of the pool reading “the curious incident of the dog in the night time”. i remember it being ublished ages ago and everyone raved about it and i bought a copy, sat down to read it and thought it was a terrible read (i didn’t pick up on the whole aspergers thing) so i never really got into it. However, this time around, having had it set as wider reading for English i got well and truly into it and can easily understand why people thought it was such a good book – not because it was brilliant writing, but the style it was written in is totally novel and really does portray Christopher’s syndrome.

After letting lunch go down with more curious incident i went snorkelling in the shallows above the coral and saw loads of different species of fish which was amazing, sadly the only one i could properly identify was an angel fish.

By this time it was around half four so i went back up to the pool, finished the book, had a couple of drinks, showered and now i am here about to go to dinner.

What a lovely day.

Fact # 26
Always check for steps when coming out of a scuba shop wearing a snorkel because you don’t really think to look down as your mind is already with preoccupied with “what a twat i look” – if you don’t you will fall and you will sprain your ankle...... trust me, i did it today and it bloody hurts.

Fact 26 & ½
I’ve got very crap weak ankles. I’ve badly sprained my right ankle three times, my left twice (excluding today) as well as nearly breaking the right on dannis trampoline and the left falling down the stairs in prĂȘt in Croydon. Very bad times indeed.

cross chips

i spent the whole of monday wandering around a sadly, very uninspiring bluewater with dan. it's the first time i've been there in about eighteen months and i am sad to report that there was nothing spectacular that caught my eye - out of all the clothes shops i came home with nothing other than a new cable for my ipod and royal gloss. i know what you're thinking... shameful.

yesterday was better though. originally the plan was to go to brighton with amelia but at east croydon amongst the drug dogs doing searches we decided it would be freezing and grey and that we'd be much better off (money wise and temperature wise) going to london instead. amongst this important decision making a dog sat down next to a man and he had to be taken away for searching and questioning - exciting stuff. we ended up getting the train to charing cross and going for a walk with no real destination, it was good.

getting home pretty early i found out once more that amelia had never seen the notebook! so i insited she stay for dinner cos my mum was out and we watch it, we ended up treking in the freezing dark to the chippy to get chips to accompany the feast we already had waiting at home of olives and dips and yummy stuff like that. mmm. i love that film. i finished the book last week, that was good too.

today so far i got up around nine thirty and then started straight away on english holiday work which hasn't been too bad cos i've managed to finish it now. i've decided i'm going to have a break right now and then attack my chemistry after lunch leaving my nettlecombe write up for the caribbean! we have to leave the house at five o clock tomorrow morning... which means i have to wake up super early. it'll be definitely worth it though.

until the blazing caribeean sun.

two vaughans for the price of one

turns out i didn't end up watching saw again due to a spontaneous trip to croydon in the evening to nandos and grants with dan. lots of talking, lots of chicken, lots of laughs. couples retreat was... interesting. good in some places, utter shit in others. a great night over all, miss her bucket loads.

pie-saw

it's finally half term and i am soo excited for the opportunity of sleeping! last night i went to amelias gathering and by the end of the night she was more than a little worse for weather, other than that all in all, other than that it was a good night. alex and i ended up eating pretty much a whole loaf of bread and bottle of golden syrup.
mm.

alex says: "pie. is good. like kittys anigav. im so witty. ahhhh."

tonight i'm gonna make myself watch saw. i've never seen it yet been on the ride so i reckon it's about time i understand jigsaw and his wrath.

moustache

it's miraculous that i managed to get an a in my biology test based on my current levels of tiredness and lack of revision due to the experience of nettlecombe. instead of heading straight to bed last night, i instead involved myself in the antics of making fajitas (i just had to look up how to spell that) for lots of people as well as many many moustaches. i was so tired in english today i fell asleep - right next to ms forshaw. she didn't seem to mind too much though, thank god.

i am so looking forward to half term, the break couldn't come at a more appropriate time. tomorrow i'm seeing alex which should be really good and then hopefully dan on monday before going away to grenada. super excited for the wedding!

just finished uploading the photos from nettlecombe, reckon i'll put some clothes away, unpack my suitcase do a bit of reading and get a nice early night. emily's lent me the notebook, at the moment it's really similar yet simultaneously different to the film but i'm enjoying it all the same.

until the next time.

fact # 22
i'm thinking i should maybe start to include pictures or photos within these posts.. then again, maybe not.

"ivie, what shall i call this... fml?"

i'm sitting in a smelly room in nettlecombe next to ivie, its about 22:00 and we've just spent the entire day standing in a river and eight different points and measuring it.. we had to walk pretty much the entire length of it, fun fun times. whoever thought geography could be so much fun! despite this moaning i guess we're all really really lucky with the whole lack of rain thing, that really would have taken the biscuit.

we have to hike up a hill like mountain structure here to get signal, so at least we're getting a daily workout to help with the whole tea and cake, and generally shite food situation. yesterday it was really dark and i dropped my camera on the hill and we couldn't find it anywhere... which meant getting up super early this morning to find it. thankfully we did - phew- but it was totally covered in ice.... but it WORKED! -double phew-

so despite soggy times, there's been fun times too.. mainly:
"fuck a duck"
ciaras wellies
bmans manic laughing
dissolving dinner
ghs
uno
the fact we have ONE plug in our room
ciaras nakedness
bman seeing the nakedness
bman listening to lady gaga on the train
losing knickers...

and other things that ivie and i are struggling to remember, i reckon it shows how tired we are.

tomorrow we're off to study human population change.....................................
so i'd best get some zzZzZZzs.

unfaithful

i've been very unfaithfuk and i have no excuse other than the fact i've been really busy and currently feel like laying on a death bed. wednesday brought a biology field trip for our coursework... in the pissing rain. we had to identify at least six different species of the eleven that were given to us on a piece of paper in a field and then we had to do a paper on them... it was soggy to say the least. this day is what accelerated my lurgies.

i have the cold and flue of satan - i can't talk, it hurts my arms so much to type this and this morning i'm off to a field studies centre in somerset for four days for my geog coursework... it involves standing in a river lots and hiking down it. i am so not looking forward to it.

morning has broken

this week has been very busy. yesterday i spent pretty much the entire day at model un debating for the netherlands, overall i guess i'm glad that i've done it but feel as though we were really chucked in at the deep end this time! max came up from the iow this weekend totally unexpectedly and turned up on the doorstep on friday with sally when alex was around. it was great to see him and an awesome surprise.
